Hearing set in child support case of Cole County prosecutor

JEFFERSON CITY — Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson is contesting a judge's ruling that he owes $132,000 in unpaid alimony and child support.

Richardson and his wife, Virginia, were divorced in Randolph County in 2000, even though they were Jefferson City residents. State law allows parties to have their divorces handled elsewhere in Missouri.

Richardson's office handles more than 100 similar cases each year.

Court records show Richardson didn't make all of his court-ordered payments from the original divorce decree. After a trial, Randolph County Circuit Judge Gary Sprick in July ordered Richardson to pay $132,000 to his ex-wife.

In an Aug. 7 motion, Richardson argued that Sprick did not issue instructions as to how the payments would be made, and that his former spouse didn't disclose how much he had already paid.

Sprick set an Oct. 16 hearing.
