COLUMBIA — Kenneth Gregg's car crashed into a large ditch of water at 3:08 p.m. on Wednesday, but his death is not considered a motor vehicle fatality.

Gregg, 69, had a heart attack, which likely caused the accident, said Dori Burke, investigator for the Boone County Medical Examiner's office.

Gregg's red 2002 Ford Thunderbird traveled off the roadway on the east side of the intersection of Vandiver and Bass Pro drives. The vehicle followed the grassy area between Bass Pro Drive and U.S. 63 southward before stopping in the ditch.

He was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
