THAYER — A Missouri Department of Transportation flagman is dead after an 18-wheeler read-ended a stopped car in a work zone on U.S. 63 in southern Missouri.

The Highway Patrol said 56-year-old Mikey Wagoner of Rolla was pronounced dead Thursday evening, five miles north of Thayer in Oregon County.

Troopers said a southbound tractor-trailer truck driven by Edward LaFleur of Indianapolis slammed into the rear of an SUV operated by Deborah Holloway of Thayer. The woman had stopped for a construction zone where Wagoner was working at about 5 p.m.

The patrol said the impact sent the truck off the road, where the rig overturned onto Wagoner.

Holloway suffered moderate injuries.

No information on possible charges was available Friday.
