MU Volleyball defeats SIU Edwardsville

Missouri volleyball coach Wayne Kreklow wasn't letting everyone play in what might have been a blowout against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

In the end, he was just trying to win.

"We just have too many people kind of checking out and not paying attention," he said.

MU scored the first 10 points of the match and won the first set 25-8. But the second and third sets were much closer, with MU winning 25-21 and 25-22.

"We made it a lot tougher than it needed to be," Kreklow said. "I was really pleased with the way we came out in game one. I thought we were really focused and intense. And then the more the match went on, I thought the slower we got."

Kreklow played sophomore middle blocker Catie Wilson for most of the first two sets. But after the second set, Wilson got word that she would spend more time on the bench in the third set.

"We were just kind of looking at moving people around a little bit," Kreklow said.

That led Kreklow to play Brittney Brimmage, the only freshman playing on the front row. While she only played middle blocker in high school, Brimmage is playing various positions at Missouri.

"Sometimes I forget the things to do because I haven't played those positions in high school," Brimmage said. "I've gotten a little bit used to it, but I just need to pick up on some stuff."

The team's next match is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against Iowa State at home.
