Driver in stable condition after crash

COLUMBIA — The driver of a 2006 Hyundai is in stable condition after a car crash early Sunday morning on Ashland Road, south of Stadium Boulevard, said Columbia Police Sgt. Ken Gregory.

The driver was taken to the University Hospital because he or she appeared to have multiple leg fractures. Witnesses heard a loud bang and then sqealing tires, according to a Police Department news release. The car was traveling south when it left the west side of the road and struck a large tree at  about 3:47 a.m., according to the release. The name of the driver and the cause of the crash had not been released as of noon Sunday.
