FULTON — A jury trial is expected to last two days for 46-year-old Steven Julian, a state fugitive apprehension agent accused of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a suspect.
The trial starting Monday takes place in Callaway County because of a change of venue. The incident happened in February in Cape Girardeau.
Authorities say Julian went to an apartment complex to apprehend 23-year-old Zachary Snyder, who was wanted on a parole violation. Police say Julian confronted Snyder, then shot him in the back. Snyder was unarmed.
Julian told authorities he was in the process of handcuffing Snyder when the suspect suddenly turned and lunged. Investigators say Julian thought his life was in danger.
If convicted, Julian could face up to four years in prison.
