Six injured in accident on Washington Avenue

COLUMBIA — Six people were injured in an accident on Washington Avenue on Monday afternoon, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

Thomas Johnson, 19, of Columbia, was driving southbound on Washington Avenue around 4:35 p.m. when he lost control of his car and moved into the northbound lanes in front of the vehicle of Vealeta Davis, 34, of Columbia, the release said. Davis did not stop in time and hit the rear of Johnson's vehicle, the release said..

Davis' car held four passengers, aged 5, 6, 7 and 11. Both drivers and all passengers were wearing seat belts, according to the release.

Johnson was taken to Boone Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Davis was treated and released at the scene, and the four passengers were moved to University Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, the release said.
