KANSAS CITY — The man accused of killing a 3-year-old girl once known as "Precious Doe" is going on trial, seven years after the child's headless body was found in a wooded area of Kansas City.

Jury selection is set to begin Wednesday in the first-degree murder trial of Harrell Johnson, 29. Testimony is expected to start Monday.

The case gained national attention after the 2001 discovery of the girl's remains and again in 2005 when she was identified as Erica Green.

Johnson, of Muskogee, Okla., is accused of kicking the child in the head when she wouldn't go to bed, leaving her to die, decapitating her and dumping her body.

His wife and the girl's mother, Michelle Johnson, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year and agreed to testify against her husband.
