FESTUS — A southeast Missouri woman is dead after injuring herself, apparently while trying to do somersaults on an inflatable slide during her stepson's birthday party.
The incident happened Sunday at the Jump Zone Party Palace in Jefferson County, south of St. Louis. The family was there celebrating the boy's eighth birthday.
Authorities say 28-year-old Sheri Stevens of Poplar Bluff might have broken her neck. Ambulance workers found Stevens unresponsive at the bottom of a slide.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in DeSoto.
