COLUMBIA – KOMU, Columbia's NBC affiliate, has earned two Mid-America Emmy nominations. Two MU alumni also earned nominations for their work.

KOMU's nominations include:

  • For an evening newscast: KOMU News at 10 from Feb. 12 — Holly Edgell, Nathan Hurst and Stacey Woelfel
  • For photographer/news: "No Time Limit" —  Scott Schaefer

The MU School of Journalism alumni received nominations in the same category. Charlotte Bellis, with her piece, "Prescription for Trouble," and Ashley Reynolds, with her work "Combating Autism from Within," were both nominated for the student production category.

The 2008 Mid-America Emmy Gala, presented by Lumière Place Casino and Hotels, will be held on Saturday at the Four Seasons hotel in St. Louis. Russ Mitchell, anchor of CBS's "The Early Show", will host the ceremony. The event will bring together various broadcast stations from Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana and Kansas.

The awards gala will start with a cocktail reception at 5 p.m. followed by the commencement at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the awards ceremony are sold out.

Last year, KOMU garnered three Mid-America Emmys out of six nominations, the most the station has earned since its first broadcast in 1953.

The board of directors of the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences determines the awards' nomination process.
