Blogging about sustainable living

COLUMBIA — A few months ago, Jennifer Enders and Brett Wilbanks happened upon a challenge on a sustainable living blog called the Quit Now Challenge, which asked people to give something up that they were addicted to. They took over supervising the challenge for a month while the blogger was on vacation, and they found that running the initiative was a mutual process.

"We have just as much to learn from them as they do from us," Wilbanks said.

Inspired by the Quit Now Challenge, Enders and Wilbanks started their own initiative in September called Unplug Yourself on Enders' blog. Unplug Yourself encourages participants to turn off their televisions, just as Wilbanks and Enders did, and to not buy things they do not need.

Wilbanks and Enders do not claim to have all the solutions to living sustainably. The new initiative, said Wilbanks, "is not about us. It's about ideas."
