PrintCARTHAGE — State officials plan a survey of Carthage residents in yet another effort to pinpoint the source and severity of the city's lingering odor problem.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources survey will be distributed over the next month in city water and electric bills. Mayor Jim Woestman said the surveys will also be available at city hall, the city's library and other locations.
It asks where, when and how often a resident has been bothered by odor problems. It also asks for the type of odor and its impact on qualify of life.
Biofuels producer Renewable Environmental Solutions was most often cited in odor complaints. But RES says it's not responsible for recent complaints, and that the company addressed its odor problems with equipment installed after a public nuisance lawsuit filed by the city and state.
