PrintCOLUMBIA — Art fans have an opportunity to see five unique gallery spaces Tuesday night, and they are only a walk, or crawl, apart. The fourth annual MU Gallery and Culture Crawl is a team effort among the campus galleries to bring attention to exhibits that are often overlooked.
“People walk by the State Historical Society (attached to Ellis Library) all the time and don’t realize what is in there,” said Dan Farnum, director of George Caleb Bingham Gallery.
WHAT: Fourth Annual MU Gallery and Culture Crawl
WHERE: Museum of Art and Archaeology, Pickard Hall on the Francis Quadrangle; State Historical Society of Missouri, east side of Ellis Library; Museum of Anthropology, Swallow Hall on the quad; George Caleb Bingham Gallery, Fine Arts Building at Hitt Street and University Avenue; and the MU Craft Studio Gallery, N12 Memorial Union on Hitt Street.
WHEN: From 4:30 to 8 p.m.
ADMISSION: Free
The crawl will take place at the Museum of Art and Archaeology, the State Historical Society of Missouri, the Museum of Anthropology, George Caleb Bingham Gallery and the recently re-located MU Craft Studio Gallery. The galleries hold well-known works and historical artifacts, as well as student and faculty works.
There is a raffle opportunity this year for those who visit every gallery. Prizes from the raffle include T-shirts, art reproductions, fair trade coffee, a chocolate gift basket and free classes. To enter the raffle, attendees should pick up a postcard at any gallery during the event or print one from the event’s Web site and get it stamped at every stop.
