SPRINGFIELD — Drury University officials are hoping a 90-minute presentation on binge drinking helps prevent the kind of thing that happened to a freshman a month ago.
Nathan Lipps suffered alcohol poisoning at a party on Sept. 13 where 16 people were charged with underage drinking. The 18-year-old was hospitalized with a blood-alcohol content of .395 after a fraternity-sponsored party.
Since then, the university has banned hard liquor on campus, two fraternities were temporarily suspended and all members of Greek organizations were required to attend Thursday's forum.
During Thursday's presentation, a doctor, an attorney and law enforcement officers gave accounts of deaths and run-ins with the law caused by alcohol. School officials say the goal was to remind students of their responsibilities and the consequences of underage drinking.
