INDEPENDENCE —  A suburban Kansas City man convicted in a woman's videotaped sex slaying is to be formally sentenced.

Richard Davis of Independence faces the death penalty when he is sentenced Thursday in the May 2006 killing of 41-year-old Marsha Spicer, also of Independence. The sentence was recommended by the Jackson County jury that convicted the 44-year-old Davis of first-degree murder in July.

Spicer was suffocated during sex at Davis' apartment, and her death was videotaped.

Davis also was found guilty in a sexual attack on 36-year-old Michelle Huff-Ricci in April 2006.

Huff-Ricci was also killed. Davis is charged with capital murder in her death in neighboring Clay County, where her remains were found.

Davis' girlfriend, Dena Riley, also has been charged in the crimes.
