COLUMBIA — A man was hospitalized Friday afternoon after being stabbed in the back at around 2 p.m. in the alley behind Hitt Street Mini Mart, located at 111 Hitt St., according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department. The victim was treated at University Hospital, and none of his injuries were life threatening, the release said.

Michelle Silvey, a friend of the victim, said at the scene that the stabbing was an escalation of an argument that occurred Thursday over a woman.

As paramedics bandaged his wound, the victim repeated: "I'm a gangster, too. I'm gonna kill him."

Based on witness statements, officers identified Kenneth M. Robinson of Columbia as a suspect. They then located and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Robinson was taken into custody and transferred to the Boone County Sheriff's Office. He has not yet made any statement regarding the stabbing.
