PrintCOLUMBIA — Boone County is having its second of three mass flu clinics from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services at 1005 W. Worley.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, 2,614 deaths in Missouri involved influenza and pneumonia during the 2007-2008 flu season, , and 36,00 deaths and 200,000 hospitalizations nation-wide are associated with the flu annually.
The first clinic was held Tuesday morning, and workers gave out 258 flu vaccines and three pneumonia vaccines, according to department public information specialist Geni Alexander.
"It's hard to tell if it's in high demand after one clinic on a rainy morning," Alexander said. "We just want them to get vaccinated. We want them to go to the most convenient location and times and hope they've gotten it elsewhere."
Residents can also make the wait shorter by completing the online consent form before visiting the clinic. To access the consent forms, go to gocolumbiamo.com/Health/index.php.
"There wasn't much of a wait this morning. People who had their consent forms filled out were in and out in less than five minutes," Alexander said. "People who hadn't filled theirs out took between six to 15 to 20 minutes depending on how long it takes you to fill out your form, but no longer than 20 minutes."
The vaccine will cost $20, but those with Medicare or Medicaid will be covered and receive it at no charge.
