A man doing excavation work found the remains Sunday a few miles from Elsberry in Pike County, near the Lincoln County line. Sheriff Jim Wells says the remains are those of an adult but declined to speculate further. He says forensic work to identify the remains could take some time.
The remains were found near the Mississippi River. The FBI and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are also investigating.
