Worker at St. Louis homeless shelter hospitalized after assault

ST. LOUIS — A 67-year-old worker at a St. Louis homeless shelter is in intensive care after being beaten at the shelter.

The suspect, 28-year-old Pamela Fraction, is charged with assault for the incident that happened Thursday at New Life Evangelistic Center.

The victim is Virginia Shelley, a formerly homeless woman who is now a supervisor at the shelter. Police say the victim's back and head were injured when she was knocked to the floor. No word on what provoked the attack.

It was the third violent attack at a New Life facility this year. In January, a man in a job skills program in New Bloomfield allegedly went on a rampage with a chainsaw, leaving four people hurt.

And in February, 21-year-old Jeremy Dunlap was stabbed to death as he slept at the St. Louis shelter.
