CLAYTON — A 47-year-old man from Garden Grove, Calif., faces charges in connection with a murder-for-hire scheme in St. Louis County.

Police say Daniel Clayton gave a would-be hitman money after allegedly striking a deal. That man turned out to be an undercover police officer. Clayton was arrested minutes later, and was charged Tuesday.

Clayton allegedly blamed the intended victim for the early spring death of a baby girl from the St. Louis area. Clayton claimed the girl was his daughter. The child's death is also under investigation.

Clayton is jailed on $50,000 bond.
