PrintCOLUMBIA — Carole King will be in Columbia on Tuesday to speak about her support for Barack Obama's presidential campaign. The Grammy-winning songwriter known for “Natural Woman” and “You've Got a Friend” plans to stop at 5:30 p.m. at the Obama campaign headquarters on 22 S. Ninth St. to greet volunteers.
Columbia is just one of King's stops in Missouri on Tuesday. She will also visit Louisiana, Hannibal and Kirksville.
In a Globe Gazette video of King's speech in Mason City, Iowa, King said her tour focuses on rural cities in the "battleground" states. Before Missouri, King stopped in Iowa, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.
King also said in the Gazette video that the inspiration for her speaking tour came from her Republican neighbors in Idaho. Her neighbors were unhappy with the current administration's time in office, King said, and she found herself telling them, "If you want to get your party back so that you feel it's representing you and what you want, the thing to do is to vote for Democrats. That will send a message to the Republican party that they have gone astray."
On Wednesday, King will travel to the Missouri cities of Camdenton, Cape Girardeau, Cuba and Farmington.
