COLUMBIA — Two men were arrested Sunday after two victims reported they had been assaulted, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
Columbia residents Larry J. Crossno, 42, and Patrick L. McDonald, 58, were arrested Sunday on suspicion of assaulting the two victims with a piece of lumber and a butcher knife, the release said. As the suspects approached the victims, a male victim displayed a baseball bat. The two victims were not injured.
Around 4:30 p.m., deputies arrived at Wagon Wheel Trailer Park, 7183 N. Wagon Trail Road. The suspects had left in a vehicle before the deputies arrived.
Deputies located the vehicle in a nearby subdivision and arrested the two suspects, who were each charged with two counts of second degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action, the release said.
Although the victims were unharmed, the suspects face assault charges because, Capt. Gary German said, they had allegedly acted in a way that — had the victims not taken evasive action — could have resulted in serious injury. The weapons also factored into the charges, German said.
As of 12:45 p.m. Monday, the suspects were being held at the Boone County Jail, according to a jail employee. At that time, no bond had been set for the armed criminal action charges, but a judge will set the bail by about 5:15 p.m, the employee said.
