Up to 50 Normandy High School students may have been exposed to HIV virus
NORMANDY — HIV testing is starting this week at Normandy High School in suburban St. Louis, where as many as 50 students may have been exposed to the virus that causes AIDS.
Last week, the St. Louis County Health Department said someone at the school had tested positive for HIV, raising concerns that others may have been exposed.
The health department is not disclosing the infected person's affiliation to the school, only that he or she indicated that up to 50 students may have been exposed.
Nor will the health department say how the virus was transmitted. St. Louis County spokesman Craig LeFebvre said Wednesday the possibilities include sexual activity, IV or steroid drug use, piercings and tattoos.
