Big homecoming events: House decorations, rally, parade and game

COLUMBIA — This weekend brings with it a slew of traditional MU Homecoming hullabaloo. Here's a look at the Friday and Saturday's main festivities.

Campus Decorations

When: 6 to 10 p.m. Friday
Where: Greektown

Teams of Greek chapters will display their homecoming decorations at 13 Greek houses. This year's pomp displays illustrate computer-animated films, including "A Bug's Life," "Cars," "Finding Nemo," "Ice Age" and "Monsters, Inc."  Nine local vendors will set up food booths throughout Greektown: The Candy Factory, D-Dee's Kettle Korn, Noodles & Company, Andy's Frozen Custard, Dippin' Dots, Smokin' Chicks BBQ, Jimmy John's, Race Dogs Hot Dogs. There is no parking in available in Greektown. Use the Conley or Turner avenues parking garages on campus. 

SPIRIT RALLY
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Corner of Richmond and Burnham avenues

The spirit rally starts at 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Richmond and Burnham avenues and will last for about half an hour.  There will be appearances by Truman the Tiger, MU cheerleaders and the Golden Girls.  Grand Marshal Juliet Huddy, an MU graduate and former talk show host for Fox News who now appears on syndicated "The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet," will speak briefly. Use the Conley or Turner avenues parking garages on campus.   

HOMECOMING PARADE
When: 8:30 a.m. Saturday
Where: Starts at the corner of Conley Avenue and Sixth Street

A large crowd is expected for the annual parade, so those planning to attend should arrive early. From Conley Avenue, the parade heads north on Sixth Street, turns east on Broadway, then south down Ninth Street, turning onto University Avenue and finishing on the corner of Hitt and Rollins streets.  Look for floats, political groups, bands, trucks, the MU football helmet and the grand marshal.   Anywhere along the route will provide a good view of the parade.  Use the Conley or Turner avenues parking garages on campus.  

FOOTBALL GAME: Missouri vs. Colorado
When: 5:30 p.m. Saturday
Where: Memorial Stadium

The 5-2 Missouri Tigers face the 4-3 Colorado Buffaloes at 5:30 p.m. MU has won seven of the last 11 Homecoming games and five of past 11 match-ups against Colorado.  Out of those five wins, three have been in the last four years, including the last two games at Memorial Stadium. The Tigers hope to use this opportunity to end a two-game losing streak and improve their position in the Big 12 North.
