COLUMBIA — Blue Springs South quarterback Blaine Dalton may be the more heralded prospect, but Rock Bridge's Darryn Hill wasn't too bad himself Friday night.
Dalton, who is committed to MU and will join the Tigers next semester when he formally enrolls in classes, led the Jaguars (7-2, 2-0) to a 37-9 victory over Rock Bridge (1-8, 0-2) on Friday.
Hill, a junior, posted similar numbers to his counterpart before leaving the game with an injured left shoulder in the fourth quarter.
Through the first half, both passed for 74 yards. Dalton was 7-for-16 and Hill was 7-for-14. Hill finished with 90 yards through the air, with only a few big plays by Jaguars receivers helping Dalton finish with 135.
J.J. Hill, Darryn Hill's father, said his son performed well enough to attract attention from colleges.
"I think he compares real well throwing (to Dalton)," he said. "He came in and showed he could be a good college recruit."
Meanwhile, Jim Dalton, Blaine Dalton's father, said his son had a little bit more left to give Friday night.
"The MU coaches called and said they may visit the game," he said. "He is pressing, knowing the game is in Columbia."
While the numbers were close between the two signal callers, Bruins coach A.J Ofodile is reluctant to compare Hill to Dalton.
"It's not an apples to apples comparison," he said. "He's (Dalton) been doing it for a long time. He won state as a sophomore in 2006. It's tough to make a comparison.
"It's good for Darryn to see all the things a QB does, like being a leader, managing the ball, managing the team, it's good for him to see that."
The biggest difference between the two Friday were touchdowns.
Dalton passed for three scores, including two to wide receiver Trayon Jones.
Hill threw for only one touchdown, a 64-yarder by running back Stuart Eiken late in the third quarter.
Eiken's speed came as a bit of a surprise to Ofodile.
"He ran by a guy (on his touchdown run) that was very fast," Ofodile said. "During practice Thursday, Stuart just ran by a guy. And then in pregame he looked faster. Maybe he just got faster during the course of a week."
Injuries struck the Bruins once again. Other than Hill, tailback Brad Troyer and linemen Chase Rome and Patrick Heflin left the game and did not return.
Rock Bridge hosts Blue Springs at home next Friday at 7 p.m.
