A leading proponent of nuclear disarmament has canceled his scheduled speech at MU on Thursday, citing health reasons.

Jonathan Schell had been scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Auditorium in Gannett Hall on "The New Shape of the Rising Nuclear Danger." He writes for The Nation, serves as a Harold Willens Peace Fellow at The Nation Institute and holds a visiting lecturer position at Yale University.

Schell was invited to Columbia by the Missouri University Nuclear Disarmament and Education Team, a newly formed group of MU professors and peace activists. The lecture was sponsored by the Peace Studies Program, the Center on Religion and the Professions and the College of Arts and Sciences.
