Hulshof beats Nixon in Columbia fundraising

When it comes to raising campaign money, gubernatorial candidate Jay Nixon won the war, but opponent Kenny Hulshof won the battle in Columbia.

Despite being outpaced nearly 2-to-1 in statewide fundraising, Hulshof received 12 percent more in contributions from Columbia residents than the attorney general did.

Columbia residents and businesses donated more than $153,000 to Hulshof's campaign during the gubernatorial race, according to last week's Missouri Ethics Commission report. Hulshof raised more than $20,000 in the city during October alone.

Nixon ended up with a total of just more than $120,000  from Columbia residents.

The figures from Columbia differ dramatically from the statewide fundraising totals of both candidates.

Nixon reported raising $16 million over the course of his three-year campaign for the governor's seat, nearly double the $8.3 million Hulshof reported raising since launching his campaign in January.
