Cougars basketball teams roll

The Columbia College women's basketball team picked up its second victory of the season, downing Avila 74-61 Monday in Kansas City.

Columbia College shot 51 percent from the field including six-for-13 from behind the arc. Victoria Smith scored 20 points. The junior forward also pulled in 11 rebounds. Rachel Oswald was also in double figures with 14 points and six rebounds.

The Cougars men's team also improved to to 2-0, defeating  Avila 81-74 on Monday in Kansas City.
In the second half, the Cougars extended their lead to as many as 19, but Avila brought the score within four before Columbia pulled away. Senior Jason Ellis led Columbia College with 21 points, while Joe Flanner had 13 and Christian Lewis 12. Greg Stegeman had eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
