Man in stable condition after Monday motorcycle accident

COLUMBIA — A motorcyclist was in stable condition Tuesday morning after being sent to University Hospital when his motorcycle collided with a car at about 6 p.m. Monday on Paris Road, a Columbia Police Department news release states.

As of 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, motorcyclist Dallas Deaton, 54, was in stable condition.

The car's driver, William Ruggles, 77, was facing southbound on Paris Road when he turned left into a driveway and failed to yield to the motorcyclist traveling the opposite way, the release states. 

The two vehicles collided, and Deaton was thrown from his motorcycle. He was transported to University Hospital where he was treated for fractures in his back and ribs, Deaton said.

Deaton also was bleeding from the spleen, but he said the condition has been contained.

Ruggles was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.   

Deaton said that although he has "felt better," he is "a pretty tough bird."
