PrintCOLUMBIA — Text messages and prerecorded calls encouraging recipients to vote Wednesday instead of Tuesday are false, a news release from Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan's office said.
The text messages said things such as: "CNN Breaking News...All Obama supporters, due to long delays, are asked to wait and vote tomorrow 11/05."

Knowingly providing false information about election procedures with the intent of preventing persons from voting is a class one election offense, according to state law.
"I have no tolerance for anyone intentionally causing confusion on Election Day. Every eligible Missourian should be able to cast their ballot today, and my office will immediately respond to any reports of misinformation," Carnahan said in the release.
The news release did not say who might have sent the text messages or made the phone calls.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, and anyone in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Voters may report text messages or prerecorded calls containing false information to the Election Division Hotline at 1-800-NOW-VOTE.
