Fulton power plant producing again

FULTON — AmerenUE's mid-Missouri nuclear power plant is producing electricity again after a nearly monthlong planned outage.

The Callaway Plant started producing electricity Friday night. It was shut down Oct. 10 for regularly scheduled refueling and maintenance. The plant had been running nonstop for 520 days since its last refueling, which was the facility's first continuous run cycle.

Crews replaced 85 of the 193 fuel assemblies in the Callaway Plant reactor core. They also finished about 8,000 repair projects while the plant was idle.

St. Louis-based AmerenUE is considering building a second nuclear power plant in mid-Missouri.
