JEFFERSON CITY — Gov.-elect Jay Nixon picked his general counsel from the attorney general's office, Ted Ardini, to hold the same job in the governor's office.

Nixon said Wednesday that Ardini will be the top legal adviser for the governor's office starting in January.

The 42-year-old Ardini, of Columbia, has worked for the attorney general for the last 16 years. He's been Nixon's top legal adviser since 2003. Before that, Ardini was the lead attorney in the public safety division.

In a written statement, Nixon praised Ardini for managing complex legal issues.

Ardini has a degree in political science from Merrimack College in Massachusetts and a law degree from the New England School of Law in Boston.
