ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Children's Hospital is opening a new area where certified experts will offer free safety consultations and discounted products for families.

The expanded offerings will be available at the hospital's "safety stop."

The hospital wants to help improve protection of children in cars and homes. It will offer car seats, home products and information.

It will also include products from a "safe escape" program, aimed at helping families with special-needs children evacuate safely during an emergency or natural disaster.

A hospital spokesperson said Thursday it is one of six hospitals nationwide given a grant by the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions to expand its "safety stop."
