COLUMBIA — Columbia police have arrested three juveniles in connection with an incident on Halloween in which two 12-year-olds were assaulted for their candy, according to a police department news release.
Two 12-year-olds and one 13-year-old were arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and are now under custody of juvenile authorities, the release said.
The assault took place on Halloween, when two boys were approached by a group of children in the 4200 block of Baurichter Drive. The suspects demanded the boys' candy, and one suspect threw a rock and struck one of the boys in the head. The other boy was punched and hit in the head with a BB gun.
The identities of the three juveniles were confirmed with the help of a school resource officer, the release said. The case is now closed.
