Body discovered in burned building in southern Missouri

WEST PLAINS — Authorities in southern Missouri are searching for witnesses to a fire at a detached garage where a body was found inside.

Howell County Sheriff Robert Crites says after extinguishing the fire on Saturday, responders located a body at the scene.

The identity of the body and cause of death are being investigated.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week.

Both the Howell County Sheriff's Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating the case.
