Police seek two after shots fired on Rice Road

COLUMBIA — Police are seeking two suspects after multiple gunshots were reported Saturday night at a home in the 5100 block of Rice Road, Sgt. Tim Moriarity of the Columbia Police Department said.

At 10:59 p.m., officers arrived on Rice Road after several calls reported shots fired in the area. They discovered the location of the gunshots was 5106 Rice Road, where they found an empty shotgun shell on the front porch and several people leaving in vehicles and on foot, Moriarity said.

Upon entering the house, officers found approximately 15 people and questioned them about the gunshots.

Several witnesses told officers that earlier in the evening approximately 10 people, including the two suspects, attempted to enter the residence for a party.

A man inside the home denied entry to the two suspects. The first suspect then pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the man's face, Moriarity said. When he closed the door, the man said he saw the second suspect fire his shotgun in the air, Moriarity said.

The suspects then left the residence in an unknown direction before police arrived. The witnesses told police they did not recognize the suspects, but that they thought the incident was related to a fight at Hickman High School on Oct. 29, Moriarity said.

No one was injured in the disturbance, Moriarity said.

The first suspect was described as a 17- to 19-year-old male about 5 feet, 11 inches tall, wearing blue jeans, a blue polo shirt and a white T-shirt underneath.

The second suspect was described as a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood cinched around his face.

The home's resident, Ryan Givens, was arrested on suspicion of minor in possession of alcohol, misdemeanor marijuana possession and a nuisance party violation, Moriarity said.
