ST. LOUIS — Veterans groups are asking for the public's aid in an effort to help an injured eastern Missouri soldier whose son died in an accident and whose home flooded.

Spc. Glenn Barker, 41, of Potosi suffered a brain injury while serving in Iraq last year.

Then his teenage son, Zachary, was killed in Washington County in May, when the all-terrain vehicle he was riding on crossed into the path of a car.

Before that, Barker's home had flooded from burst pipes while he was receiving treatment, with mold there making it impossible to return without renovations.

The American Legion's "Heroes to Hometown" program and the Missouri Veterans Commission are seeking $63,000 to help him buy a used trailer and pay rebuilding costs not covered by insurance.
