COLUMBIA — As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, hunters in Boone County had harvested 1,531 deer since the start of the firearm hunting season on Saturday. The county tally included 644 antlered bucks, 187 button bucks and 700 does.
These numbers come from the Missouri Department of Conservation's Web site, which provides a running tally on the harvest, county by county, that's updated three to four times each hour.
The statewide total for the season through 5 p.m. Wednesday was 133,149. Macon County had the highest harvest, with 2,747.
The conservation department also has an online interactive map showing the 2008 total deer harvest that is being continuously updated.
Hunters in Boone County harvested 2,445 deer through 5 p.m. Wednesday; 182,346 deer had been harvested statewide.
Hunters have until 10 p.m. on the day a deer is taken to check their kill by phone at 1-800-314-6828 or online through Telecheck. Hunters will be asked to provide the Telecheck number located on the permit, deer type, number of points and county in which it was taken.
The firearms season ends Tuesday.
