JOPLIN — A Joplin company that works with explosives is expanding, thanks to a $15 million contract with the Defense Department.
The EBV Explosives Environmental Co. east of Joplin is spending $20 million to construct three new buildings to demilitarize cluster bombs and rocket launchers. The expansion is expected to bring dozens of new jobs.
The company will continue to operate its incinerator, but it is shifting from incinerating to disassembling the weapons because it is cheaper, environmentally friendly and safer.
The Department of Natural Resources is inviting the public to review and offer written comments on the company's proposed permit modifications until Dec. 29.
