COLUMBIA — A 53-year-old man reported being assaulted by two men during an attempted robbery just after midnight Thursday, a Columbia Police Department news release said.

At about 12:30 a.m., one of the suspects approached and spoke to the man as he was walking in the 1700 block of Amelia Street, the release said. The suspect then displayed a handgun and demanded the man's property, the release said.

The man told police the suspect then hit him in the face because he was moving too slowly. The man then fled from the suspects. He was later treated for nose and forehead injuries at a Columbia hospital.

The man reported no property stolen, the release said.

The first suspect is described as 6-feet-tall with a thin build, wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt.

The second suspect's description and involvement is unknown.
