2 men plead guilty to role in meth death

KANSAS CITY — Two Kansas City men plead guilty to charges in the death of a woman who drank what she thought was soda pop but turned out to be lye at the pair's methamphetamine lab.

John D. Williams and Benjamin Clarkson told a federal judge Thursday that their meth-making created the dangerous situation that caused Carly Morris to die in October 2007.

Williams and Clarkson each pleaded guilty to one count apiece of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute meth and creating a risk of harm to human life while making the drug.

Court documents show that the three were high on meth when Morris took a swig from a soft drink bottle and almost immediately started vomiting.

Neither man took her to a hospital or called an ambulance for fear of being questioned. Co-workers took her to an emergency room the next day, but she died 10 days later.
