Blunt pardons 2 turkeys before Thanksgiving

JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Matt Blunt has saved two turkeys from becoming a Thanksgiving meal.
Blunt pardoned the turkeys Tuesday at the Governor’s Mansion. The birds will spend the rest of their lives on a Weston farm that’s designed to teach urban and suburban children about agriculture.
Blunt said he gave reprises to two turkeys because a statewide vote to name the pardoned poultry was too close to call. Four-and-a-half million votes — more than in the recent election — were cast to name the saved animals Turkulese and Stewie.
Missouri school children suggested five possible names.
