Driver arrested on suspicion of intoxication, distributing marijuana

COLUMBIA — A 39-year-old Fulton man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and distribution of a controlled substance late Wednesday.

The incident occurred at 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of Lakeland Drive and Lake of the Woods Road, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff’s Department’s Proactive Patrol Unit stopped a vehicle driven by Michael Matney for an equipment violation. Deputies determined that Matney was  intoxicated, and he was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, the news release said.

A search of Matney’s vehicle led to the discovery of about 48 grams of marijuana in two plastic bags, the news release said. Matney was arrested on suspicion of distribution, delivery and manufacture of a controlled substance.

The vehicle’s passenger, Clint Welsh, 39, of Columbia, was also arrested on suspicion of distribution, delivery and manufacture of a controlled substance.

Matney posted bond set at $10,500. Welsh posted bond set at $5,000.
