COLUMBIA — The Boone County Fire Protection District board of directors is set to appoint an interim fire chief Tuesday.
The board reached a retirement settlement with former Fire Chief Steve Paulsell last week and said they would name an interim chief within the week. The board has yet to decide how it will choose its next permanent fire chief.
Board member Shelly Dometrorch said she and board chairman John Gordon Sr. both interviewed Deputy Chief Jeff Scott and Assistant Chief Scott Olsen since Paulsell's departure. Tuesday's meeting is intended to inform the rest of the board about the interviews.
"The meeting with the full board is to discuss what (Olsen and Scott) said and pick an interim chief," Dometrorch said.
Meanwhile, Gordon said the conversations about a new choice remain superficial at this point.
"We haven't come up with a plan, but that's obviously high on our agenda to get done," Gordon said.
Gordon said the process could end up with a national search.
"This is going to be an open process. There'll be applications taken from both internal and external candidates," Gordon said.
The board will conduct the closed meeting at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the fire district headquarters.
