JEFFERSON CITY — The chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party plans to resign his post effective Saturday.
John Temporiti said Thursday he was stepping down now to give his successor a full election cycle to implement an agenda. He has been the Democratic Party’s chairman since February 2007.
Under Temporiti, Democrats picked up seats in the state House and captured five of six statewide offices. The Democratic State Committee plans to select a new chairman at its reorganization meeting this weekend in Columbia.
Temporiti was a former aide to St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley and the chief of staff for St. Louis Mayor Vince Schoemehl.
