KANSAS CITY — A man and woman driving around Kansas City looking at Christmas lights thought the glow in one house didn't look like holiday decorations.
When the couple drove past the house again during their Sunday night tour, the glow was larger, and they realized the house was on fire. They jumped from their car and found that a man and two girls were trapped inside on the second floor.
The man, identified by KSHB-TV as Nick Roumas, ran into the burning home but turned back because of heavy smoke. Roumas climbed a neighbor's ladder and broke a second-floor window, then helped the family to safety.
The family members were taken to hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation and are not seriously injured.
