COLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department is currently looking for a suspect in an assault on a 19-year-old female, said police Sgt. Barbara Buck. The suspect is a man approximately 6 feet tall in his 30s with a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a dark bandanna over his face.

The woman was assaulted on Monday while she was sitting behind a vacant house in the 300 block of Benton Street, Buck said. A man approached her and attempted to rip off her shirt and pants. After hearing a vehicle in the area, he ran southbound. The victim was not injured.

The incident is still under investigation, Buck said. Those with information are encouraged to submit their tips on the CrimeStoppers Web site at 875tips.com. A reward of $1,500 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
