COLUMBIA — Robert A. Durrett, 20, was transported to University Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries after a motorcycle accident at 1:40 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department. The accident took place on the 5100 block of I-70 Drive Southeast.

Durrett was driving a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on I-70 Drive when he lost control of the motorcycle. Unable to regain control, he was thrown from the motorcycle and slid along the road with the motorcycle for approximately 250 feet before stopping just off the roadway, the release said.

Police believe excessive speed is a probable contributing factor to the crash.

Durrett was wearing a helmet. He was transported to the University Hospital where he was treated for what were believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries in the form of abrasions and possible bone fractures, the release said.

Police are still investigating the accident.
