DESLOGE — An eastern Missouri man and a police officer are credited with saving a woman from a burning home.

The fire broke out Monday morning at a two-story house in Desloge. James Medcalf was at a day care next door when he saw the flames.

Medcalf and a Desloge officer both arrived at the house at the same time. The men kicked in the front door and helped a female resident escape.

Police did not release the name of the officer involved in the rescue. The woman appeared to be unharmed.

Medcalf says the woman didn’t want to leave because she was worried about her cat. It is believed the cat got out safely on its own.

The state fire marshal’s office has ruled the fire as accidental, possibly electrical.
