PrintST. LOUIS — St. Louis' mass transit agency, Metro, is developing a plan to cut bus service in the wake of last month's defeat at the polls.
Voters on Nov. 4 turned down a tax increase for Metro, leaving the agency with no choice but to make significant cuts in bus routes.
Spokeswoman Dianne Williams said Tuesday that the latest plan will be presented to a strategic planning committee at 1 p.m. Thursday. If approved, the Metro board will consider the plan on Dec. 19.
Williams says the plan calls for significant reductions in routes and would eliminate most routes outside of Interstate 270 in St. Louis County.
The law prohibits Metro from seeking another tax increase for a year, meaning the earliest the agency could go back to voters would be next November.
